1 Welcome to the Water Element

The Depth

The water element is the source of your emotions and your feelings. This is what brings depth and richness to your life. It’s the essence of the human experience and the source of the both of the pain we experience and the joy.

Water is what allows us to nurture others and ourselves, form intimate bonds, and experience depth of feeling and emotions. It is a feminine element and is characterized by its soft, embracing, and nurturing essence.

Overview of the Water Element

Through water we relate to others and form emotional bonds. Our relationships are rooted in the water element. The relationships we tend to value most are the one that provide us with powerful, positive emotions in the highest concentration. Communication is how we engage the water element in a relationship and it allows us to convey our feelings to others in the hopes of receiving a positive emotional response.

As we communicate our emotions and our feelings to others, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with others and that forms intimacy. When our feelings are respected and we feel supported, our intimacy deepens and consequently so does the bond of the relationship. This gives us the courage and the impetus to further share our feelings and allow ourselves to become even more vulnerable.

Intimacy originates from the water element. Physical intercourse itself is an Earth action, but when it’s combined with emotional depth and vulnerability, it becomes an act of intimacy and engages the water element.

Intimacy is the epitome of our desires within the water element. It’s what allows us to feel most connected to other, as well as ourselves. Often we may misinterpret our desire for intimacy as a desire for sexual gratification, or sensual foods such as chocolate. Yet what we ultimately desire is intimacy itself, and while those things can be intimate, they aren’t intimate in and of themselves.

Aside from our relation to others, water is also how we relate to ourselves. Water is the source of our self-nurturing and self-compassion. How we treat ourselves is vital to our well being and our happiness. How we treat and view ourselves dictates whether we enjoy our days and experience happiness, or conversely feel miserable and suffer.

This element is the most vulnerable one to becoming blocked or unbalanced. Once the water element goes, the remaining elements are usually soon to follow if you do not work to bring it back to balance.

In this module you will learn how and why the water element becomes blocked, and the most powerful methods you can use to find balance to allow your water element to flow freely.

Course Module Breakdown

Why is it important to have your water element balanced? Your water element is key to maintaining healthy relationships, self-love, the ability to use your senses of the world to translate it into something truly artistic. It is propelling element toward compassion, purpose and patience with others. And most importantly is the ability to express emotions positively, even the negative ones. What does that mean?

Let’s focus on three important traits we embody through water, and how a positive and truly balanced water element can affect your life through these traits:

#1 Emotional Intelligence

#2 Self Love

#3 Intimacy

Now let’s look at an unbalanced or blocked water. It is very important to realize, when your water is not being embraced you are much more likely to express your emotions negatively. You are always expressing yourself, even with a blocked water, but it is not authentic and it comes through self-centredness, hot-temperedness and passive aggressive emotions.

When your water is not being fulfilled there is a tendency to brood, to get overwhelmed or anxious. There is also the worry of wavering and be inconsistent in your relationships with others. There can be a drift toward obsessiveness to food, sex, etc. at a surface level it can also feel like a void that needs to be filled.

Why is it important to also understand the negative aspects of water? To fully understand the element, even the negative aspects leads us to understand why balance is so important in this element and brings a fully honest view to the element. Also, it’s important to realize that we will always experience some form of imbalance in our water – it is not uncommon nor unacceptable to fall to the negative side of water, we must embrace it, face it, and be aware there are many bumps in the road on the way to success, and we must be able to face these instead of expect perfection.

#1 Anxiety

#2 Filling a Void

#3 Repressing / Perfectionism

The water element encompasses many aspects of your life and entwined within Earth, Fire and Air it truly brings a deeper understanding and passion to all it touches.

In Earth, water softens the practical and rigid, logic driven actions and allows us to reach a deeper tangible and imaginative outcome. Water nourishes the ground of Earth with a feeling of being cared for, and this can add a dimension of meaning to their lives.

In Fire, water can add emotional nuance to Fire’s instinctual responses, and help Fire learn things like tact, compassion and how to nurture. Fire can blaze a trail for Water out of the swampy abyss of inaction. Their vitality and enthusiasm lifts Water up, so they can find their way. Like with any element, there’s a danger here of mutual harm if things are not in balance. Fire can dry up Water, and make them feel brittle and undernourished. Water can smother Fire, put out the flames of inspiration, which usually sends them right out the door.

In Air, water can help the Air sign make the deeper emotional connection. Water inspires Air to create a stronger personal base for what they’re saying, by meaning what they say. Air signs help Water put their feelings into words, and understand the patterns at play in their lives. Air encourages the insights of Water, and can be a motivating force for creative expression.
